families a scrambling to try to figure out the best new path forward. this morning, the cdc's ground breaking new mask guidance leading to sweeping cases, but in many cases confusion. at least 19 of the 24 states that still had mask mandates have announced plans to either scrap them or adopt the cdc's guidance. >> we are going from mask wearing requirements to mask wearing suggestions. >> reporter: this weekend in colorado, denver moving to 100% capacity without social distancing and the pittsburgh pirates relaxing their mask policy allowing fully vaccinated fans to watch the game without a mask. michigan just weeks removed from a covid crisis ditching mask requirements indoors and outdoors for the state's fully back to normal. ation. >> reporter: but almost pu is sll nma n't queo simple.

lose the mask, but her 10-year-old still can't get vaccinated. >> i didn't want to leave her alone on the island so i thought we'll continue to do what we have been doing. if we go to the grocery store, we'll both wear masks. >> reporter: businesses face big decisions. popular chains walmart, costco and trader joe's already dropping their mask policies for fully vaccinated shoppers while target and home depot are keeping theirs. many business owners and their employees are concerned about enforcement. >> should i card the people? should i ask for vaccination? i can see the conflict will be with people where they say i'm vaccinated but don't have my paper with me. so how do you deal with that? >> reporter: furthering that problem not too far from here a long island cvs employee was arrested for allegedly stealing and selling vaccine cards from work. it's a problem officials are concerned about across the country. eva? >> trevor ault for us.

the story just continues to go on as we all wait for things to go back to normal. the colonial pipeline may be up and running following that ransomware attack but there are still gas shortages caused by the shutdown and the panic buying. elwyn lopez is at a gas station in atlanta as the entire state of georgia remains under a state of emergency. good morning to you, elwyn. >> reporter: good morning. here at this gas station they are still out of premium and while fuel shortages are starting to ease up, gas is still hard to come by in several parts along the east coast of the united states. now, gas buddy is reporting more than 80% of pumps in washington, d.c. are still dry and want to read this from colonial pipeline. they just released it this morning. more than a dozen states including north carolina, georgia, d.c. and texas are now receiving product from our pipeline and over the past few days, experts say the biggest driving force behind the outages are panicked drivers hoarding gas. >> i've been looking for gas fo everything.

advice for you on the dating skeen scene. if you have a date and your date has a dog or cat, bring some treats. don't skimp on the belly rub. whit, i heard the hmm. >> well, dan's cat toby we hear about all the time. i don't know if i had a trust his decision on anything. >> no, if you show up with treats you'll win that dude. no question about it. >> i feel like i should have trusted my dog a couple times when i didn't. >> lesson learned. >> thank you, janai. we appreciate it. we do want to turn to our "gma" cover story. so after the cdc said that vaccinated people can take off their masks in settings, americans are coming to terms with a whole new way of life. in february, a survey by the american psychological association found that nearly half of respondents said they felt uneasy about returning to in-person interaction. here to tell us why many of us feel this way and how we can adjust our mindsets is dr. rheeda walker, a licensed

clinical psychologist. dr. walker, thank you so much for being with us. it's an important issue because if you go outside it's like people are still trying to figure this out. what's the state doing? what's the government doing? what's the business doing? how do we work our way through this anxiety? >> that's such an important question, especially for now because i think it's -- we have to realize what anxiety is. anxiety comes about in response to uncertainty about what's going on, mixed messaging and we feel those fears in with our worst thoughts and have to be sure to control those and think about what is it that i can actually control in this situation but oftentimes it feels like we have no idea what we can control. >> talk to us about coping mechanisms here. what can you do if you're feeling this way? >> well, you know, for folks who are feeling especially anxious some people to be sure who are excited about everything opening back up. but for those who feel especially anxious who can take small breaks, especially at work, maybe plan for five-minute five-minute brea at specificbe a

times of day and when we take those breaks maybe we can write down what are our thoughts, how are we feeling about being back at work? if it's a social situation then it's okay to think about, well, maybe i'll go for 30 minutes. i don't have to stay the entire time and risk getting overwhelmed. we want to set ourselves up for success. so maybe getting a little bit more rest at night. maybe just 30 minutes more rest because when we're exhausted, it's hard to manage uncertainty. and when we think about going back to work, you know, a lot of us have hour long commutes we've not had to take. we may want to practice getting up in the morning at the same time we would for that commute. make sure we're planning for those commutes and maybe try on some clothes so we can get ourselves into practice. >> this might be a good time to remember, be patient, respect each other. everyone's got a different level

of comfort in this. dr. walker, thank you so much for your time. we do appreciate it. >> thank you. >> dan, over to you. we'll talk about something that will cure anxiety. taxes. the deadline for taxes is now two days away and you still have some time to get your paperwork in. so we'll bring somebody in for some last-minute tips for getting it all done. he's our financial expert humphrey yang. humphrey, good morning to you. >> good morning, dan. how are you? >> great. so if you can't file by may 17th, the due date, what do you recommend? >> yeah, so individuals can actually file for free an extension on the irs website and that also applies to small businesses, as well, like single member lcs and sole proprietorships so as long as you do it before monday you can get an extension until october 15th. if you do extend from october 15th, that doesn't excuse you from making estimated tax payments. however, it means you probably won't get a refund check until october 22nd at the earliest. >> there is an incentive to get moving here. the usps data show there were

nearly 36 million address changes in 2020. i know we changed our address twice during 2020. if you move to another state, how does that affect your taxes? >> yeah, so generally if you reside in two states you need to file a tax return for both of those states. now, a common situation that happened in 2020 was that many people were working remotely and maybe they airbnb'd a place in denver. in that case you wouldn't have to file a state tax return. if you have individual questions you might want to contact a tax professional for your situation. >> you know what's helping me is we're pumping techno into this conversation. that really helps. here's one last questions for the parents out there. what is the 2021 child tax credit? >> yeah, so the 2020 child tax credit was $2,000 per child but in 2021, for this upcoming year, it's going to be $3,000 per child or $3,600 for a tax credit
